The Walk

The parent’s guide for junior golf

Raising a junior golfer, hole by hole.

Clubs that actually fit. Nine holes with the family. Multi-sport kids. Kids playing local tournaments. Practice you can do this week. We wear and use the gear we recommend.

Fit by height, not birthday

How tall are they — with shoes on?

Height, not birthday. We use 3-inch bands (the tightest chart in the sport). Other brands sell wider boxes — we only show them if this height actually fits.

Their set

UL7-48

48–51″ · Often around 7–8 · 7-club stand set

They outgrow a 45 in a hurry. PING Prodi G custom starts to make sense if you want one set they can lengthen instead of replacing the whole bag.

Where We Compete

From $5 munis to the AJGA sheet.

Youth on Course. PGA Jr. League. U.S. Kids. Under Armour. Hurricane. Then AJGA — when there is a way in, not a wish.

1

Family golf

Nine with dad, mom, brothers, sisters, friends. Youth on Course and the muni are how you pay for it. The game is the course, not a website.

2

A team or a system

PGA Jr. League and/or Operation 36. Friends, a coach, a level to beat.

3

A skills day

Drive, Chip & Putt. Free. Fun. Not the whole plan.

4

First individual start

U.S. Kids local. Early starters: 5 or 6. Tees that match the driver they actually have.

Your Home Course

Private club or the muni. Price the Tuesday, not the logo.

How to get a GHIN. What a public year costs versus initiation and dues. Whether they can actually chip after school. Most families should stay public longer than they think.

Stories From The Bag

Sundays, from the bag. Anonymous kids. Named tours.

A caddie walking a Sunday: the cost, the tee, the number, what we’d do again. Not a brochure.

How this site stays on

Referral links now. A parent membership when we’re ready.

Club recommendations go to U.S. Kids, PGA TOUR Superstore, Operation 36, and a handful of fitters. If you buy, we may earn a cut. The tour map is not for sale. Caddie Circle ($79/year) is the thing you’ll pay us for — monthly plans, fit alerts, calendar — once it opens.
